SAVANNAH — A new afternoon sports show, “Second Down, with Christian Goeckel”, presented by The Uniform Source, will debut on Monday, June 1st on ESPN Radio Savannah/Hilton Head, WSEG. Set for a Monday-Friday daily run in the 2-3pm afternoon time slot immediately preceding “Three & Out”, “Second Down” will serve as a Savannah-centric program, with a focus on both local and regional sports, the athletic departments at nearby Georgia Southern and Savannah State included.

From the latest around town to the players and teams that matter to those in the coastal empire, “Second Down” will be a first-source for sports in the low country.

An Atlanta-native, Goeckel has served in various marketing and production capacities at ESPN Coastal. He, in addition to working to increase the company’s digital outreach and influence, has helped develop the brands of “Three & Out”, “High School Gameday” and ESPN’s Coastal’s weekend programming. Goeckel has hosted the “Shawn Quinn Show”, “Danny Britt Show” and “Coastal Adventures” in recent years, developing important local relationships in the area. He has also covered high school football on ESPNCoastal.com and college football for SouthernPigskin.com.

Joining Goeckel in a producer’s role on “Second Down” will be ESPN Coastal personality and U.S. Army veteran Cody Queen.

“Local sports talk has always been a place I would go to hear folks discuss the teams and sports that are important to me. I love a lot of the national personalities, but there’s just something different about someone from the same area as you discussing your teams. When you turn on the radio the day after your closer blows a save, you don’t want to hear about a team halfway across the country. You want to hear someone who experienced the same thing you did,” Goeckel explained. “That’s what I’m going to bring to the people of the Savannah area for an hour a day.”

Interview-heavy, the theme of “Second Down” will be to provide another platform to the biggest news-makers in the industry.

“Christian Goeckel is all things Savannah. I am excited to hear him daily highlight the 912 sports scene and Tigers sports!” Savannah State Head football coach Shawn Quinn shared.

In addition to current scheduling, “Second Down” will continue to help ESPN Savannah/Hilton Head spotlight local programs, athletes and events alike. Along with P.J. Zucco’s “High School First Look”, multiple weekly school-specific blocks and more live on-site prep programming from Kevin Thomas, Goeckel’s show will only accentuate a commitment to in-depth local coverage.

“It is our goal to highlight the many personalities and storylines in the local sports community and do so on a daily basis,” Thomas, operations manager at ESPN Savannah/Hilton Head, added. “Christian knows the area scene very well and his passion and perspective is sure to resonate with local fans. We are excited for the start of ‘Second Down’ and the opportunity to bring even more coverage to town.”

Presenting sponsor of “Second Down”, The Uniform Source, an area fixture since 1987, is the coastal leader for school and facility uniforms and scrubs and embroidery. Industry expert David Eichelbaum is the contact for needs in the restaurant and safety industries. Call 912-964-7974 or email uniformorders@aol.com.

Soon to be heard daily on ESPN Radio Savannah AM 1400 & FM 104.3 and ESPN Radio Hilton Head FM 92.7, “Second Down” will also stream live on ESPNCoastal.com and, via video display, on corresponding social media accounts. Follow Christian on Twitter @goeckelESPN.”
