The recruitment of Benedictine’s Luke Kromenhoek has been fascinating to watch. The rising junior has yet to start a game at quarterback in high school, yet he’s already garnered offers from multiple institutions, including Florida State, UCF, and Coastal Carolina.
This past season, Kromenhoek started at strong safety and tight end for the state champion Cadets, while backing up now Auburn quarterback Holden Geriner.
On Saturday, the 6-4 signal caller surprised many by announcing his commitment to Florida State. We had a chance to catch up with Luke and discuss his decision.

What was it about Florida State?
“I had a conversation with my parents and my quarterbacks coach, down in Jacksonville, Coach Denny Thompson. We just talked about it, and I decided it was the best place for me. The coaches are unbelievable. They treated me like family right when I got there. The fans are awesome, the history is rich, and I really feel like FSU is on a rise back to one of the best teams in college football.”
Without a ton of on-field success, what did Mike Norvell sell him on?
“He’s put in all of his players’ heads that they’re going to be the best. They’re doing all the right things. They’re working hard and training hard. There’s just something about Coach Norvell that makes me believe him when he says they’re going to be the best again.”
Why commit so early? (Kromenhoek is heading into his junior year)
“Everything just made sense. It’s a great program, and with all the visits I’ve taken it just made sense for me to be there. They were my first offer, so it meant something to me that they believed first. Even without having any film, they offered me. My relationship with the coaches, it’s something special. I could tell they really meant it.”
How would he describe himself as a quarterback?
“I’m a leader. I love to lead. I’m kind of just natural at it. I’m the type of quarterback where, if I have to run through a big, old defensive lineman to get into the endzone, that’s what I’m going to do. I’m the type of quarterback that will sacrifice my body if it means the team will win. I’m all about winning, I love to succeed, and I’ll do whatever it takes to win.”
