Greg McElroy says “You can’t justify” taking Stetson Bennett out

The Stetson Bennett – JT Daniels quarterback competition, at least in the mind of media members, has gotten very real, very fast.

Bennett, a fifth-year senior, has played at a high level while filling in for an injured JT Daniels.

Former Alabama quarterback and National Champion Greg McElroy, on his weekday show “McElroy & Cubelic in the Morning”, said Kirby Smart can’t move away from the guy with the “hot hand.”

“You can’t justify taking him out.” McElroy said “I don’t care what anyone says, the guy has got the hot hand. I know that JT Daniels… even with his legs, how many different plays does Stetson Bennett make with his legs this past weekend?”

“I’m not one that thinks JT Daniels is the second coming of Peyton Manning. I think he’s a good, solid player. I do not think he’s a future top-5 pick. I’ve never thought that. I think he’s got a limited ceiling, and I think he’s very accurate on the underneath throws. However, I don’t think he’s this total game changer.”

“I mean, do I think JT Daniels is very good? Sure. I think Stetson might be, with his mobility and his fearlessness, he might be the better option at the moment.”

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Kirby Smart hasn’t taken the bait on any of the questions about his quarterback room.

The case for Bennett is stout: Undefeated, team hasn’t missed a beat, better mobility than Daniels, etc.

BJ Bennett brought up some fascinating points about Stetson Bennett’s season.

Newly named No. 1 Georgia is preparing to take on undefeated No. 11 Kentucky at 3:30 on Saturday. College GameDay is back in Athens for the second time in three weeks, and are covering their third Georgia game this year (Clemson week 1)
