When it comes to the game of football, especially in its most current form, there are few people with as much knowledge as high school football head coaches. Most of what we see on Saturdays, and now on Sundays, has filtered up from the minds of the men who patrol the sidelines on Friday nights.

These coaches also have a unique perspective of the college coaching ranks. Coaches come and go at breakneck speed in college, jumping from one job to another. The smart college coaches develop significant relationships with their counterparts at the high school level, mostly for recruiting purposes, but a lot of times as a sponge soaking up the knowledge they have to offer.

With that in mind, I spoke with three high school head coaches who have spent a lot of time winning games at a high level in this state: Bob Sphire of Camden County, Rocky Hidalgo of Glynn Academy, and Danny Britt of Benedictine. They offered their takes and analysis on the biggest storylines of Monday night’s National Championship matchup between LSU & Clemson.
