Two unbeaten South Georgia teams will line up and compete under the Friday night lights for forty-eight minutes this Friday.

New Hampstead (3-0) at Brunswick (2-0)

Here’s a look at what football fans can expect…

Brunswick relies heavily on its rushing attack; their leading back, Chuckobe Hill, has rushed for 169 yards and 2 scores on 19 carries. While Hill leads the way for the Pirates’ ground game, they have two other backs in Ree Simmons (2 touchdowns, 93 yards)  and Leon Charlton (95 yards, TD on just 3 carries). Each running back is leaned on heavily in Sean Pender’s offense, and will presumably have their numbers called early and often against the Phoenix this Friday night.

On defense, Pirates’ inside linebacker Staffon Stanley looks to continue his stout performance,  currently leading the Pirates with 15 tackles. Junior linebacker Zion Turner has 2.0 sacks and is looking to continue bringing pressure vs a good New Hampstead passing attack. The Pirates have protected end zones like chests of gold, only allowing 13 points in 8 quarters.

The Phoenix look to continue to soar behind the dominant play of sophomore quarterback Pauly Seeley. The signal caller has thrown for 660 yards, 11 touchdowns, and is averaging an impressive 220 passing yards per game. Seeley, who works double duty as the Phoenix punter (45 yards per pun), relies on targets like senior WR Torrina Bias (178 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns) and senior TE Kaden Sonnabend (131 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns on 7 receptions). Much like the Pirates, the Phoenix have a plethora of running backs that can fly once they reach the open field. Senior running back Jamell Coast has scored 3 touchdowns this year and is looking to add to his 112 yards rushing, while his wingman junior Kaleb Smith has added 109 yards. Thus far, New Hampstead is performing at a high level offensively, while matching those efforts on the defensive side of the ball. Junior inside linebacker Rodney Wade has recorded a team high 17 tackles, 2 of which were for a loss. He is the leader of a defense that has recovered 6 fumbles and has only allowed 18 points in three games.

Kickoff is set for 7:30pm for this week’s ESPN High School Gameday fueled by Enmarket and driven by Savannah & Low Country Honda Dealers at Glynn County Stadium. The Game will be live streamed via ESPNCoastal.com
