Savannah State, SIAC Announce Plan to Return to Play for 2021
In a press conference this morning the SIAC announced that it will “seek to cautiously and prudently move forward with the 2021 winter and spring sports schedule.”.
Savannah State basketball, men’s & women’s, will tipoff their seasons on January 9, 2021. The season will have between 12-14 games, and will finish with the SIAC Basketball Championship Tournament.
The news isn’t as good for fall sports. From Savannah State Athletics: “The SIAC will not sponsor championships for football, men’s and women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball for the remainder of the 2020-21 academic year.’
The teams will be allowed to participate in competitions in these sports, however. According to Savannah State, the football team is currently trying to line up scrimmages with other DII teams.
Also important to note: As of now, no fans will be allowed to attend any events on SIAC campuses.
